Also pleased to announce that Ex Lab2 commissioned Artists are Gary Stewart, Stefan Kueppers and Alice Angus of Proboscis-
“We are very excited to be commissioned for ExLab and are looking forward to working with the local community, PVA MediaLab, Bridport Arts Centre, Hive Beach Cafe, the National Trust and earth scientists. The coast at Hive Beach is an inspiring and rich mix of physical and social history, folklore, scientific knowledge (amateur and professional) and contemporary stories.” says Alice.
http://proboscis.org.uk/
http://exlab.org.uk/

The ‘Story Weir’ project focuses on the area around Hive Beach, Burton Bradstock and we’ll be co-managing the commission with Bridport Arts Centre and working with the National Trust, the School of Geography [Exeter] and Hive Beach Cafe. Can’t wait to hear the stories emerge!

“In that ephemeral space of flux between the land and sea the continual cycles of sun, tide and sea affect changes larger than we can imagine but also are felt by humans on a daily basis.”

The studio is delighted to announce that we have co-commissioned Proboscis, Gary Stewart and Stefan Kueppers to work with us at Burton Bradstock. We will work in partnership with Bridport Arts Centre to produce ‘Story Weir’ for Ex Lab 2 in 2012.

Proboscis will work on location at Hive Beach, Burton Bradstock exploring how the human story of the Jurassic coast and the physical geography influence each other. They will create a new event in sound and video that will be experienced in the area in 2012.

Proboscis are Alice Angus and Giles Lane working with artist Gary Stewart and technologist Stefan Kueppers. They most often work outside art galleries with local people and communities and collaborate with scientists, technologists and architects.

Ex Lab is a visual arts project responding to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, a 95 mile section of stunning Dorset and East Devon coastline. Ex Lab brings together artists with earth scientists in a collaborative project investigating our understanding of this special coastal environment. The project will present new work arising from this arts and science dialogue during July – September 2012 set against the backdrop of the Olympic and Paralympic sailing events taking place in Weymouth and Portland.

These sound-walks [Bridport to West Bay] were led by artists ivon oates, David Rogers, Marcus Leadley and Joe Stevens at the audioLab10 sound symposium ‘The Language of Place’.

Each artist guided symposium participants along a different route and employed a unique approach whilst walking. Marcus interacted with the objects and spaces found along the route. ivon aimed to draw the sounds. David concentrated on the sounds heard along the walk. Joe stopped for a number of listening exercises and then discussed the sonic landscape we walked through.
