PVA - LabCulture

Jason Lim

In January 2006 PVA welcomed Jason Lim, ceramicist and performance artist from Singapore as artist in residence. During his stay Jason presented a new work and spoke about his practice. He also cooked his own farewell supper for a very enthusiastic (and hungry) audience of artists under a cold, clear, star-filled West Dorset sky.

Jason participated in LabCulture Singapore in 2005 and is currently working on a live art project at South London Gallery.

The studio is working with Jason to select and curate work for an event in Singapore, September 2006, to coincide with the Singapore Biennale.

Jason trained at Central St Martins College of Art & Design (UK), 1992. He holds a Master of Fine Art from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, Australia (2003).

He has undertaken residencies in Japan, Netherlands, Australia, Singapore (LabCulture, 2005) and South London Gallery (2006). He has been awarded the Freeman Fellowship to take up a residency program in Vermont Studio Center in the USA in 2006.

"Working with ceramics without the burden of tradition releases me from conventional and colloquial wisdom. I have the freedom to explore a wide range of possibilities with different shapes, textures, and colors".
